Earth is now controlled by the aliens through a kind of puppet government called the ADVENT Administration. Most of the members of the organization submitted to the alien rule but there were a few people such as Central Officer Bradford who refused the alien administration and went into hiding. XCOM 2 is set in 2035, 20 years after the events of XCOM: Enemy Within. The story of this game takes on a scenario in which earth actually lost the war to the invading aliens and these aliens actually took over the planet. Once manning the front lines against the alien threat, the nations that made up XCOM eventually became nothing more than a resistance against the massive takeover and actually had to go underground. The company also said using only a computer platform would allow the company to bring new features quicker. The game was originally scheduled for release in November of 2015 but in August of 2015, the company announced it was pushing back the release in order to further polish the game. The game has been solely released through Steam for the PC, Mac OS X and Linux.įiraxis Games stated the reason behind the decision to only bring this game was PC was because it felt more comfortable working in this platform. Unlike the previous version of the game, XCOM 2 is not being released on any other platforms than computer. The game was officially launched on February 5, 2016. Firaxis announced during E3 that Jake Solomon, who was the the creative director of Enemy Unknown, returned to direct XCOM 2. The announcement trailer was quickly followed up with a gameplay trailer during E3 2015 on June 15. Instead of outright telling people the website was aimed at XCOM 2 the site featured an advertisement of the “Advent Administration”, whose aim was “creating a world free from hunger, pain, sickness, and war.” This same website later showed that Advent Administration was actually up to something a bit more evil and sinister. XCOM 2 was officially announced through on June 1, 2015. On May 25, 2015, which was about a week after this leaked announcement, a teaser website called “Advent Future” was officially launched this website was used as a kind of teaser as it still didn’t originally announce what the name of the game it was featuring was called. In May of 2015, Firaxis announced a new AAA game in an earnings report though the company did not divulge what the name of this new game was.
